Sie wurden schon immer besungen, wie in dem Wiegenlied von Wilhelm Hey aus dem 18. Jahrhundert. Wir schauen zu ihnen hinauf. Sie sind Symbol in fast jeder Religion und Zeichen für die Gestalt des Menschen. Sie zieren Autos, Werbeblätter und Magazine und ihre Substanz ist die Substanz von allem, was uns umgibt und wer wir sind. Die Sterne.
Die Sterne sind aber auch das häufigste Symbol auf Flaggen, die der Identifikation, Zugehörigkeit, der Abgrenzung dienen und unter deren Namen auch häufig Blut fließt. Als Farbe des Blutes ist Rot die am häufigsten verwendete Farbe bei Flaggen. In gut 2/3 aller Flaggen taucht diese Farbe auf.
„stars & stripes“ ist eine Interaktion, Performance und mediale Installation mit 297 Sternen (Anzahl der Sterne auf allen Nationalflaggen der Erde), um Nationalitäten, Nationalismen und Blut, der Migratio, der wandelnden Bewegung mit Blut, einer Flagge und aller Flaggen, um Sternchen, dem Starsein und Sternenstaub. Der Künstler Stephan US führte sie erstmals Anfang 2018 aus.
„Es geht mir in dieser Arbeit um das Imaginäre, die fast unsichtbare Bewegung, der Migratio des Lebens, die uns alle verbindet“, so US. Dazu hat er schon einen Tropfen Blut und den dazugehörigen Stammbaum von über 37 Menschen bekommen. Und die Bewegung dieser Bluttropfen ist beeindruckend. Sie reicht von Algerien, über Polen bis nach Kanada, von der Bauernschaft bis hin zu Metropolen wie Paris.
„stars & stripes“ ist der experimentelle Versuch im Spiel mit den kulturellen Identifikations-mechanismen und mit künstlerisch-performativen Mitteln die Frage nach einem anderen Wir öffentlich zu erforschen und erfahrbar zu machen.

Do you know how many little stars there are?
They have always been sung about, as in Wilhelm Hey's lullaby from the 18th century. We look up to them. They are a symbol in almost every religion and a sign of the human form. “stars & stripes” is an interaction, performance and media installation with 297 stars (number of stars on all national flags on earth) to represent nationalities, nationalisms and blood, the migratio, the walking movement with blood, a flag and all flags Stars, being a star and stardust. “This work is about the imaginary, the almost invisible movement, the migration of life that connects us all,” says US.
